Institutions and roles
ETIAS documentation refers to multiple actors. Some are EU institutions and agencies, and some are national authorities designated by each Member State.
Examples of actor categories
- EU institutions: bodies responsible for EU-wide policy and legislation.
- EU agencies: entities with operational or technical responsibilities for large-scale systems.
- National authorities: competent authorities designated by Member States for parts of the process defined by law.
Precise role definitions and terminology vary by legal text and by the system being described. For primary references, consult the Sources page.
