Process terminology

Official ETIAS descriptions use process terms such as "application", "processing", and "decision". This page explains the meaning of those terms in a neutral way, without instructions.

Common process terms in official writing

• Application: a request described in legal texts, represented as data in a system.
• Processing: steps and checks defined by law and system rules.
• Decision: an outcome category defined in the applicable legal act.
